Hello, I am Carl. Portrait photography is a great love of mine, and I am always looking for new faces to put in front of the camera.
How I work
A good portrait rarely happens in the first five minutes. So I take my time: talk a while first, build up calmly. The real work starts once it stops feeling like ‘posing for a camera’.
I photograph in a studio. That sounds more businesslike than it is. It mostly means I decide on the light entirely myself, and that the weather or the time of day does not matter. So we are in no hurry and can keep trying until it is right.
Never modelled before?
Most of the people I photograph are not models. They find it exciting and have no idea what to do with their hands. That is no problem: I give directions while we work, and you do not have to be able to do anything beforehand.
